Explore Heathcote

There’s plenty to experience throughout the Heathcote region for both wine lovers and those simply looking to enjoy the area’s rich history, scenic landscapes, and country charm.

Pink Cliffs

The Pink Cliffs of Heathcote are a striking reminder of the region’s gold rush past. Formed by hydraulic sluicing, the soft pink and orange earth was carved away by miners searching for gold, creating the dramatic landscape seen today. Surrounded by native bushland, the Pink Cliffs Reserve is now a peaceful spot for walking and photography, offering visitors a unique glimpse into Heathcote’s rich history and natural beauty. Its also a great spot for wedding photos! Only a short 2 minute drive, or 10 minute walk, from Red Edge's cellar door its a great spot to stop at before or after a wine tasting.

O'Keefe Rail Trail

The O’Keefe Rail Trail is one of central Victoria’s most scenic cycling and walking trails, stretching through the picturesque countryside between Bendigo and Heathcote. Following the route of the former Heathcote railway line, the trail winds past native bushland, rolling farmland, historic bridges, and charming country towns, offering visitors a relaxing way to experience the region’s natural beauty and heritage. Popular with cyclists, walkers, and nature lovers alike, the trail provides a unique opportunity to explore Heathcote’s renowned wine region at a slower pace.

Many Red Edge visitors take on the O’Keefe Rail Trail before finishing their journey with the climb up the hill to the Red Edge cellar door. While the final stretch can be challenging, the reward is well worth it — a relaxing wine tasting experience paired with sweeping vineyard views and a true sense of accomplishment.

Food and Produce

For breakfast or brunch, we recommend stopping by Fodder Cafe on High Street, a local favourite known for its relaxed atmosphere and quality coffee and meals.

If you’re after a quick and traditional country bakery experience, Segafredo's Bakery is a must-visit. This family-owned bakery is renowned for its fresh pies, pasties, and made-to-order sandwiches.

For a more substantial meal, both The Commercial Hotel Heathcote and Union Hotel Heathcote offer classic pub dining, local wines, and a welcoming country atmosphere.

Wine lovers should also make time for the Heathcote Wine Hub, where you can enjoy generous grazing platters alongside tastings from wineries across the Heathcote region.

If a cleansing ale is needed after a day of tasting wine we recommend Palling Brothers. They have a selection of beers crafted on site and pub style food.

Prefer to cook your own feast? Stop in at McIvor Meats, where Steve the Butcher is well known among locals for exceptional service and some of the best steaks in the region. Ask for the Scotch Fillet or pork steaks.
