Mourvèdre 2024

Mourvèdre is a venerable French variety that found a home at Red Edge back in 1999. After a decade of blending it with Shiraz, winemaker Peter Dredge decided to let the grape stand on its own. Drawing on its Australian heritage, he chose to label it as Mataro.

Fifteen years later, the opportunity has arisen to showcase this wine as a standalone varietal once again. Mourvèdre is celebrated for its rose petal and raspberry aromas, offering a soft, juicy palate with light plum characters and briary undertones. By aging the wine in stainless steel tanks, we have preserved its pristine, fresh fruit profile. Often overshadowed by the famous Heathcote Shiraz, Mourvèdre is a hidden gem of the region. It is our pleasure to reintroduce you to this distinctive and disregarded classic.
